This installation can be performed without disassembling the ALTA X, however, the photos here have the top removed to provide a better picture. This is the hub, for reference. Note the location of the power wires and GNSS receiver.

  1. Install RP-SMA extension cables onto RFD. Remove the nut and washer from the threading and set aside. The RFD is installed with the heatsink facing downwards, in this orientation, the extension cables should be installed with 5” on the right, 14” on the left.

  2. The RFD is mounted using the two holes found in the front corner of the aircraft, near the GNSS receiver. The RFD, with the RP-SMA extensions installed, can be inserted through the side of the aircraft by removing the side plate under the GNSS receiver.

  3. Once the RFD in in the aircraft, complete all of the connections before securing the RFD down.

    1. Connect the 6-pin JST Serial to RFD to the port in the bottom of the RFD.

    2. Remove the two side panels indicated in the photo below and replace them with the two plates provided in the kit. *This photo shows a completed installation

    3. Run the RP-SMA extensions to the mounting holes in the two replaced side panels and install. The longer extension runs to the panel under the power connections, and the hole is obstructed by the power cables - the cable can inserted by going between the wires of two connectors.

    4. Install the two short 90 degree antennas provided in the kit. Ensure to tighten nut onto RP-SMA threading before installing antennas.

    5. Run the pre-installed SBUS cable on the RFD to the SBUS connection access. This is located next to replaced panel under power connection (indicated in photo above). In the back of this panels enclosure you will find a small opening with a grommet. The servo connector should be inserted through this hole and into the enclosure. This can be done by removing the access plate and pulling the grommet out slightly, fishing the cable through the hole, and then through the unsecured grommet. Once the cable is through, re-insert the grommet.

    6. Plug the provided servo connector into the SBUS whip, photo below. Secure the connection with the servo clip provided.

    7. Bundle the cables into the enclosure and re-install panel, ensure no wires are being crushed while re-installing.

  4. Complete the installation by secure the RFD to the aircraft with the 8mm flathead screws provided.

Aircraft Setup

  1. The following parameter changes need to be made to the aircraft. Connect to the aircraft and navigate to the “Flight Modes” tab of ALTAQGroundControl.

Return Switch - Channel 8

Flight Mode 1 - Manual

Flight Mode 4 - Alt. Hold

Flight Mode 5 - Mission

Flight Mode 6 - Position

2. A px4 radio calibration must be completed. Navigate to the “Radio” tab of ALTAQGroundControl and follow the radio calibration steps.

Ensure not to arm the copter while performing radio calibration. This can be avoided by bringing the joysticks back to center before calibrating Yaw axis to prevent holding the stick in arming position.
