Quick Start Guide
This installation can be performed without disassembling the ALTA X, however, the photo below has the top removed to provide a better picture. Use this photo as a reference throughout the installation process.
Install RP-SMA extension cables onto RFD in correct orientation. Leave SBUS cable connected to RFD. Remove the nut and washer from the threading on the extension cables and set aside. The RFD is installed with the heatsink facing downwards, in this orientation, the extension cables should be installed with 5” on the right, 14” on the left.
Insert RFD into aircraft by removing the panel under GNSS antenna. The RFD is mounted using the two holes found in the front corner of the aircraft, near the GNSS receiver. The RFD, with the RP-SMA extensions and SBUS cable installed, can be inserted through the side of the aircraft by removing the side plate under the GNSS receiver.
Complete all of the connections before securing the RFD down
SERIAL CONNECTION: Connect the 6-pin JST serial cable in the aircraft to the available port on the bottom of the RFD enclosure.
ANTENNA CONNECTIONS: Remove the two side panels referenced in the photos below and replace them with the two panels provided in the kit. Run the RP-SMA extensions to the mounting holes in the two replaced side panels. The longer extension runs to the panel under the power connections, and the hole is obstructed by the power cables - the extension cable can installed by going between the wires of two power connectors, as shown in the photo below. Secure each extension cable to the panel with the washer and nut previously removed. Use a wrench to tighten nut. Install the two short 90 degree antennas provided in the kit.
SBUS CONNECTION: Run the SBUS cable from the RFD to the SBUS connection access compartment. This is located next to the replaced panel under the power connections (indicated in photos above). Remove side panel. In the back of the compartment you will find a small opening with a grommet. The SBUS connector from the RFD should be inserted through this opening and into the compartment. This can be done by pulling the grommet out slightly, into the compartment, and then fishing the SBUS cable from inside the drone through the hole into the compartment, and then through the unsecured grommet. Pull about 50mm of the SBUS cable into the compartment and then re-install the grommet with the now inserted SBUS cable. Plug the servo connector in the compartment into the SBUS connector from the RFD. Secure the connection with the servo clip provided. Bundle the cables into the enclosure and re-install panel, ensure no wires are being crushed while re-installing.
Secure RFD to aircraft. Complete the installation by securing the RFD to the aircraft with the 8mm flathead screws provided.
Aircraft Setup
The following parameter changes need to be made to the aircraft. Connect to the aircraft and navigate to the “Flight Modes” tab of ALTAQGroundControl.
Return Switch - Channel 8
Flight Mode 1 - Manual
Flight Mode 4 - Alt. Hold
Flight Mode 5 - Mission
Flight Mode 6 - Position
2. A px4 radio calibration must be completed. Navigate to the “Radio” tab of ALTAQGroundControl and follow the radio calibration steps.
Ensure not to arm the copter while performing radio calibration. This can be avoided by bringing the joysticks back to center before calibrating Yaw axis to prevent holding the stick in arming position.
